An evenly matched field is set to line up at Gulfstream Saturday for the GIII Kitten's Joy S., which is running as a graded event for the first time. The morning-line nod went to Isabelle de Tomaso homebred Irish Mias (Sky Mesa). Breaking his maiden at third asking when stretched to two turns for the first time in the Laurel Futurity S. Sept. 21, he was fourth in the Awad S. at Belmont Oct. 26 and second in this venue's one-mile Pulpit S. Nov. 30.
Mike Maker saddles a son of this race's namesake for that champion turf horse's owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey in Bless the Kitten (Kitten's Joy). Fourth on debut at Keeneland Oct. 6, the homebred won by a head last time at Churchill Nov. 10.
Patrick Biancone saddles a filly against the boys here in Yesterdayoncemore (Ire) (No Nay Never), who makes her first start for this conditioner here. Formerly trained in Europe by James Stack, she was winless in five starts overseas, including two graded, and graduated in her American debut in Del Mar's Juvenile Fillies Turf S. Sept. 2. The dark bay was sixth last time in Santa Anita's Surfer Girl S. Oct. 6.
